Life

Last blog of the month before we’re 1 month down in 2025. I’m listening to Bossa Nova beats while taking time here to reflect on what works so far. I’ve posted 12 times this month and I’m pleasantly surprised because 9 of them are videos. I was under the impression that they would take long to create, but it was an unhealthy obsession with detail that was delaying the process. Since realising this, I’ve implemented a few rules that has helped with that:
1. Drop the script, use keywords instead
This is one relates more closely to my voice and how I speak because man, it made me sound like a robot occasionally. I thought to myself: “Why don’t I just use a chatbot for this?”. That simple question made me realise I can be in a lot more control of the words I speak, the flow of a sentence and the intonations. All of which would make a difference as long as I had certain keywords to guide my audience from Point A to Point B. If keywords are the landmarks, my storytelling is the map.
2. Improvise on the flaws
I’ve creating on the fly most times while refining my approach. So, things don’t go according to plan. A lot. Sometimes, it comes in the form of a stutter when I’m recording or a misaligned text layout. I’d compare it to the flaws on our bodies, the little things aren’t noticeable to most. Anyway, these flaws would have drove my younger self mad. Similar to a bad stroke on a drawing, I’d try to make it part of my work. In Bob Ross’ words: “we don’t make mistakes, we have happy accidents”.
3. Try different systems
Up until last year, my creative process has been in the order of: writing a copy > filming > recording audio > designing > post pro. It’s a common way of content creation so I’ve grown familiar with it, but it never really appealed to my nature. I’m a ‘show then tell’ type of person so leading with art and design first is working smoothly right now. The current downside to this is the struggle to find the right words to match my work.
It’s been a productive month so far and a fun start to 2025 because of the trial and errors. I’m really looking forward to developing my Blender project, I hope you are too. Let this be the grand beginning in the first quarter of the century, Happy Chinese New Year! GXFC, STJK, DJDL, XXSC.
