Design

About a week ago, a friend and I decided to make the doughnut on Blender.
It’s a 3D software, and the doughnut is regarded as the rite of passage for 3D designers.
Having used Autodesk Maya before, I thought it was just a matter of recollection.
I was wrong, and thoroughly humbled starting from the 4th episode by Blender Guru.
Things started off simple (he’s a good teacher) so I expected completion within a few days, MAX.
Needless to say, things got more complicated so the journey lasted an entire week lol.
On average, I watched an episode everyday after work.
Some days went smoother than others, other days were a struggle.
I remember sitting in my chair questioning the decisions which led me there.
It happened when I was trying to get the sprinkles and lighting right.
I had to fiddle around with something called ‘geometry nodes’ and ‘compositing’.
That was by far the most challenging part of the tutorial for me.
Despite the obstacles, it was time and effort well-spent.
I was very confused at first, and it feels like I’ve just scratched the surface.
Blender has so much potential, I intend to experiment more with it.
Just look these doughnuts!
