high effort ≠ high results
Alright, monthly reflection time. What have I learnt about personal branding?
Let’s start with the obvious.
- the friction to post is far less daunting
- views are up, of course
- YouTube and TikTok gave me the best exposure
- reels/shorts perform best for overall reach
Here’s the funny thing.
Content I’m proud of rarely gets the traction I hope for.
Meanwhile, low-effort content that I’m doubtful about often outperform my expectations.
I’m still looking for the sweet spot, but one thing’s for sure: high effort ≠ high results.
For example, I’m fond of my pixel art series but the entire process takes ~5 full days to complete.
In the same timeframe, I could create way more low-effort fitness content if I choose to focus on it.
Alternatively, I could dedicate more hours towards my professionalism which would compound differently too.
So far, I’ve kept the topic of interests shallow, which is probably why the results have been mixed.
The good news is that I have many interests, so there’s much to talk about.
The bad news is that I have many interests, so there’s too much to talk about.
To sum up my dilemma, I’m at a crossroad between creating content for passion, mission and profession.
My initial idea was to fuse all three, but the data suggests that they each perform better as a pillar of their own.
My gut feeling is that once this experiment is over, I should reprioritise my time and effort more intentionally.
That said, there are some things I’m improving at and would like to share more of in time:
- Finding ideas to replicate while adding your own twist to it
- Building a bank of resources you’re obsessed about (footages, artwork, music)
- Organising those resources into a system that support collaboration/automation
That’s it for now, see you next week.
