In my usual training routine, I train every part of my muscle throughout the week: push, pull, legs, abs. Then, I utilise them altogether through martial arts or cardio. Similarly, I’ve been practicing different parts of my creativity in the quarter: copywriting, content creation, 3D modelling, logo designing… you get the idea. This method is great for honing a variety of skills within a short amount of time but it does trade deep insights for quick progress. In the case logo design, I lose track of meaningful quality just to make daily progress. It’s fast, but not efficient.
So, I’m starting to practice a different way to train my creativity outside of my usual habits. This is closely linked to my last post but if you haven’t read it, I’ll summarise it in 4 words: do less, focus more. That is my mantra for this quarter and creatively speaking, I’ve been focusing on nothing but my logo (so far). Ironically, I believe I will complete it by this week. Through my recordings and personal ramblings while designing, I’ve found that all I think about is completing this one task. Even when I’m eating, weird.
It still takes some getting some used to and sometimes I feel guilty because my autopilot has been programmed to get a variety of work at the same time. It’s a lowkey flex to do so, it’s just that my internal monologue a month ago would go something like: “Ok, just 5 more minutes and I’ll have to start stitching my recordings for the next reel. Then, I have to…” which is definitely not the type of headspace I want whilst redesigning my logo. For it to be timelessly experimental, it needs quality effort and a sincere attention to detail.
Spoiler alert, here are some snapshots from the week.
