I believe the way you start the year will set the rhythm of the entire year, which may be why new year’s resolutions are popular.
I’m not a big ‘new year new me’ person cause I don’t like the idea of putting something off until the start of a new year. That’s just premium procrastination. I believe we can always start anew, everyday. Anyway, it is ironic, and let’s call it good timing, cause I do have a new year’s resolution this year. It’s to learn about building a business and right now, I’m reading on business models. Tbh, it feels like I’m revisiting a dusty textbook from Business class back in high school.
Here’s a fun fact: did you know most gyms make most of their profits from people who DON’T go to the gym? This is because there usually isn’t enough room for all members if everyone was present. That said, imagine the amount of gyms making monthly profits from yearly ‘new year, new me’ contracts. That’s crazy but it is relatable though, cause I remember doing so for an entire year and on the off chance that I did go, I would only run on the treadmills because I was afraid to do anything else. It wasn’t my best year but it’s how I realised that the start is the most difficult.
Some things I remember that made it difficult to start include:
low commitment to self, no clear goal
lacked knowledge on gym equipments + exercises
low motivation, had to train alone most of the time
poor time management
badly structured priorities (I was very addicted to video games)
Anyway, I’m thinking these are some topics I can potentially visit as I try to hack my way through my test tube designs. I like what I shared this week. It’s not much yet, but it’s very liberating to create with an unfiltered imagination. For the most part, all I’ve shared about have been my art and design. But recently, I’ve been trying to bring fitness and storytelling to the fray.
It feels like I’m trying to introduce 2 friends who’ve been getting along really well to 2 other friends who just met each other. I’m sure they’ll get along eventually, friendships have a strange way of working out as long as everyone puts in the time and effort to understand and respect one another.
